These problems result because informal communication allows for information distortion. Distortion is most common as this means of communication does not follow any defined rules or channels (Guffey & Loewy, 2013). This means that they can be a means of transmitting any form of information and to any person irrespective of whom without respect or fear. This method also lacks confidentiality this is because everyone can freely interrelate as there are no restrictions (Krizan, 2006).
